Nic’s documentary feature credits include the critically acclaimed Gore Vidal: The United States Of Amnesia which premiered at the Tribeca Film Festival in 2013 and was released through IFC / Sundance Selects in 2014 and Abandoned: The Betrayal of America's Immigrants (featured on PBS Independent Lens). Nic currently has two new feature projects in production – The Kimberley Project, that explores Indigenous rights in remote Aboriginal Communities in north western Australia; and a documentary on influential independent record label Future Classic, An Australian Sound.
Nic’s work has been part of Official Selections at major global film festivals including Tribeca, London, Boston, Palm Springs, Melbourne, Milan, Vancouver, Zurich, Rio, Athens, Bergen, New Horizons, Outfest, Filmfest and American Cinematheque. He is equally recognized for his unprecedented access to cultural figures such as Gore Vidal and musician Sia as he is for patient, groundbreaking social studies that go behind the headlines. Nicholas has also directed and produced short documentaries including Endless Caravan, Haitian Eksperyans and The Modern Gulag, which inspired the New York Times’ coverage on North Korean gulags operating in Far East Russia.
Nic is the recipient of an Alfred I. Dupont Columbia Award Winner for Broadcast Journalism; the United Nations Association Film Festival Grand Jury Award For Best Documentary; an Audience Special Recognition Award at Aspen Filmfest; runner-up, Audience Award Best Documentary Film at Traverse City Film Festival; and the Audience Award, Best Documentary Feature at the Palm Springs International Film Festival.
Nic has also collaborated on commercial projects with Directors including Sean Penn, Larry Clark and Roman Coppola; and Radical Media, Ridley Scott Associates and STINK; he has won Gold Promax Award for pioneering work on live webcasts for MTV Europe; and he is currently exploring the use of documentary film content in contemporary video art.
